Do silicone sealants have any requirements for the construction environment? What are the construction methods?

Time:2024-09-27 Views:5

Silicone sealants have certain requirements for the construction environment and need to follow certain construction methods. The following is a detailed elaboration of these requirements and methods:

一、Construction environment requirements

1. Temperature: Silicone sealant can be constructed normally in the environment of 5~40°C. When the temperature is lower than 5°C, frost may appear on the surface of the substrate, which is not conducive to the bonding and curing of the glue and the substrate. When the temperature is higher than 40°C, although the curing speed will be accelerated, it may also lead to the formation of air bubbles or the unstable properties of the glue.

2. Humidity: Silicone sealant needs a certain air humidity to vulcanize during the curing process, so the construction environment should not be too dry. However, the humidity should not be too high, because too high humidity may affect the curing speed and curing effect of the glue.

3. Cleanliness: The construction environment should be kept clean to avoid dust, oil and other impurities from polluting the surface of the substrate, which will affect the bonding effect of silicone sealant.

4. Other factors: Avoid applying in rain and snow or in an environment that is too humid and prone to frost to ensure that the silicone sealant can cure properly and achieve the expected bonding effect.

二、 Construction method

The application method of silicone sealant usually includes the following steps:

1. Pre-construction preparation:

   - Conduct adhesion performance tests and compatibility tests to ensure that the silicone sealant can form a good bond with the substrate and that the materials used in the construction will not have adverse effects on the silicone sealant.

   - Sweep the surface of the substrate from loose particles and dust to ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free of grease and surface dirt such as release agents, curing films, hydrophobic agents, etc.

2. Injection Bonding:

   - Apply primer to the surface of the substrate as needed to enhance the bond.

   - Use a glue gun or other suitable tool to evenly apply the silicone sealant to the surface of the substrate, ensuring that air is excluded to avoid affecting the curing quality.

   - For two-component silicone sealants, it is necessary to mix A and B in a scientific ratio before use.

3. Trimming & Curing:

   - After the injection is complete, trim the injection surface to remove excess glue and protective tape.

   - Let the silicone sealant cure naturally at room temperature, the curing time is determined according to the ambient temperature and humidity, usually 3~5 days in summer and 5~7 days in winter. External forces should be avoided on the bonding site during curing.

4. Follow-up treatment:

   - Once curing is complete, remove any excess adhesive residue with a rag or paper towel. If further processing or coating of other materials is required, make sure that the silicone sealant has fully cured and meets the desired performance requirements.

To sum up, the construction environment of silicone sealant should meet certain temperature and humidity requirements, and keep it clean and dry. At the same time, it is necessary to follow the correct application method to ensure the bonding effect and curing quality.
